Schneider Charge Pro

Supported devices: Schneider Charge Pro

Our EMS supports the Schneider Charge Pro AC charging station over Modbus TCP, so its charging current is steered along with the rest of the site instead of running on its own.

Supported devices

Model Current type Connectors
Charge Pro AC 1

The station has a single outlet, a socket or an attached cable, which the EMS treats as one connector.

Schneider Charge Pro support is available from EMS controller version 0.0.334.

EMS functionality

With the current integration, our EMS enables:

  • Charging current control: the EMS writes a maximum charging current, which the station applies within 15 seconds.
  • Pause and resume: a pause suspends the session instead of ending it, so charging resumes in the same session. Below 6 A the EMS pauses rather than offering a current the vehicle cannot use.
  • Load balancing: the station takes part in the site load management, per connector.
  • Phase detection: the EMS converts between current and power over the phases the session really uses, so a single-phase vehicle is steered correctly.
  • Session monitoring: charging state, power, current and energy are read back and shown on the device page and in the EV charging dashboard.
  • Incidents: a faulted connector, an unknown connector status and a station that refuses the written current are raised as incidents.

The EMS cannot start a session on its own account: the vehicle has to be authorized at the station or over OCPP. A session is only stopped when you ask for it explicitly with a manual override.

Additional functionality may be added over time as integration capabilities evolve.

Setup

  1. Network

Connect the station to the same network as the Voltmasters Controller, give it a fixed IP address and make sure Modbus TCP is available on it.

Follow the Schneider manual for the network and Modbus settings of the station.

  2. Add the station in the platform

Add a device of type EV charger, brand Schneider and model Charge Pro. Fill in the IP address and check the prefilled values: port 502 and Slave ID 255, the server ID the Schneider Modbus guide fixes for this station. Then set the parameters:

    • Max charging current: the highest current the installation allows, from 6 to 32 A. Defaults to 32 A; lower it when the station is wired for less.
    • Fallback charging current: the current the station falls back to when it no longer hears from the EMS, from 0 to 32 A. Defaults to 0 A, so charging stops on a lost connection rather than continuing on a current the site budget never approved.

Both can be changed later in the device settings.

  3. Verify

Start a charging session and check on the device page that the charging state and the power come in, and that the station follows a lowered limit.

Fallback on a lost connection

The EMS sends the station a heartbeat on every cycle. When that heartbeat stops for longer than the detection time set on the station (60 seconds by default), the station switches to the Fallback charging current. The EMS writes that value again on every cycle, so it survives a restart of the station.

Energy manager registration

The EMS registers itself as the external energy manager on the station, so this does not have to be set up on the station beforehand. An incident is only raised when the station keeps refusing it.
