The SMA Data Manager aggregates the inverters of an installation behind one Modbus TCP connection.

How the integration works

The Data Manager reports the aggregated production of all connected inverters. The EMS curtails the active power at installation level, for example at negative prices, under a fixed export limit or for zero export.

Setup

  1. Connect your computer to the same LAN as the SMA Data Manager and open its IP address in a browser.
  2. Log in as Installer.
  3. Enable the Modbus TCP server (port 502) so the EMS can read the plant and send setpoints.
  4. Make sure Modbus and grid-management mode are enabled on the aggregated inverters as well, otherwise curtailment cannot take effect.

The Data Manager reports the combined production and forwards the EMS's active-power limit to its inverters. For inverters connected directly, without a Data Manager, see Sunny Boy / Sunny Tripower.

Enter the plant's installed PV capacity when adding the device. The Data Manager applies the EMS limit as a percentage of that capacity, so an incorrect value leads to incorrect curtailment. The same capacity has to be entered on the Data Manager itself, see Reactive power control (Data Manager).
