Data Engineer

Build the data pipeline behind our EMS, from raw sensor data to actionable insights.

Full-time Data Gistel, Belgium

At Voltmasters our Energy Management System (EMS) connects thousands of devices: batteries, inverters, meters and charging points. That produces a continuous stream of real-time energy data. As a Data Engineer you build the pipelines that turn that stream into a reliable, usable foundation for the whole platform.

You work at the intersection of hardware, cloud and AI, laying the foundations our algorithms and dashboards run on.

What you will do

  • Build and maintain data pipelines that process sensor and meter data via MQTT, InfluxDB and AWS.
  • Model time-series data and safeguard quality, reliability and scalability.
  • Make data available to our ML models, dashboards and reporting.
  • Optimise storage and query performance for large volumes of time series.
  • Work closely with backend, ML and product to turn raw data into concrete insights.

What we expect

  • You have experience building data pipelines in Python and SQL.
  • Knowledge of time-series or streaming (Kafka, MQTT) and databases (InfluxDB, PostgreSQL).
  • Experience with cloud (AWS) and infrastructure-as-code is a strong plus.
  • You write clean, tested and well-documented code.
  • An interest in energy, IoT or sustainability is a bonus.

What we offer

At Voltmasters we believe that strong people make the difference. That is why we offer an environment in which you can grow, build and learn.

  • A full-time role in a stimulating environment.
  • A competitive salary package with tailored benefits (such as an internet allowance, meal and eco vouchers).
  • Health insurance.
  • An Apple laptop with a second screen, and a recent iPhone or Android smartphone.
  • A noise-cancelling headset to stay in your flow.
  • All the software you need to do your job well.

Personal development

At Voltmasters there is a strong mindset of continuous growth. Standing still is moving backwards. We encourage everyone to keep learning, experimenting and sharing knowledge.

  • Stay current: every week we set aside time to explore or experiment with new technologies.
  • Learning budget: each year you get an extra budget of €2,000 to invest in personal growth, for books, training or conferences.
  • A healthy balance: we aim for a good work-life balance. No overtime, but flexibility and room to recharge.
  • Learning together: we share knowledge through internal sessions, reviews and team lunches.
  • Autonomy and trust: you get the freedom to learn and grow at your own pace, within a team that strengthens each other.

Extras that will quickly feel familiar

  • Hybrid working: work from home or from our office space in Gistel.
  • Freedom and trust: few rules, lots of responsibility.
  • Small teams, big impact: direct influence on product decisions.
  • Flat structure: no layers of management, just people working together.
  • Daily lunches together and the occasional afterwork.
  • Unlimited drinks and fruit at the office.

We are still small enough to be flexible, but big enough to make an impact.
