Centrica Energy is an international energy trader that deploys batteries for frequency containment reserve (FCR). The Voltmasters EMS executes Centrica's steering signals locally, with the response speed frequency services require.
Who is Centrica?
Centrica Energy is the trading arm of the listed Centrica plc, with main offices in London and Aalborg and teams across Europe, Asia and North America. The company is active in power, gas and LNG trading and is one of the larger route-to-market partners for renewable production and battery storage, with services such as PPAs and flexibility optimisation.
Our partnership
Centrica deploys batteries behind the Voltmasters EMS for FCR, Elia's fastest reserve service. Centrica places the capacity in the market and sends the activation signals, while the controller executes them on site within the installation's safety limits. With a response time of 1 to 3 seconds, the EMS is built for this kind of frequency service.

What can Centrica steer through the Voltmasters EMS?
Batteries, specifically for FCR (Frequency Containment Reserve). The battery automatically responds to frequency deviations on the grid and is remunerated for it through Centrica.
What do I need to connect a project to Centrica?
A contract with Centrica and the certificate set they provide: root CA, client certificate, client key and the private key in PKCS#8 format. These are uploaded in the project's energy trading settings.
