GoodWe MT and SMT under control

The GoodWe MT and SMT series are three-phase grid-tied inverters from 30 to 80 kW. They have no SunSpec, so Voltmasters EMS reads their own register block: it monitors production, curtails active power during negative prices or under an export limit and controls reactive power.

Supported devices

  • MT-reeks
  • SMT-reeks

MT: GW30K-MT, GW50K-MT, GW60K-MT, GW35KLV-MT, GW70KHV-MT, GW80KHV-MT and GW80KBF-MT. SMT: GW40KS-MT, GW50KS-MT and GW60KS-MT. In beta, available from controller version 0.0.340. Other GoodWe inverters connect through SunSpec; for the SEC3000C see the GoodWe integration under battery storage.

What the EMS gets out of your GoodWe installation

  • Automatic curtailment during negative prices
  • Injection limiting, up to zero injection on the grid connection
  • Align production with battery, EV chargers and site consumption
  • Yield monitoring with alerts on deviations
  • Ready for the connection requirements of the grid operator

Why installers combine GoodWe and Voltmasters

An inverter that only speaks RS485 often sits behind a serial converter. The EMS works with a regular RS485 to Modbus TCP converter, and with the RTU over TCP option also with a transparent converter that passes the RS485 frames on unchanged. That way an existing MT installation also becomes a controllable part of the energy strategy.

The technical bit, in short

  • Modbus TCP through an RS485 to Modbus TCP converter
  • Or RTU over TCP through a transparent serial converter
  • Controller and converter on the same local network

How your GoodWe connects to the EMS

Voltmaster Controller in the cabinet

The industrial DIN-rail controller sits next to the installation and runs the optimisation locally, even without internet.

Connect over the local network

You connect the device following the step-by-step guide in our documentation. We assist with commissioning on your first project.

Configure and go live

The installation appears in the platform: dashboards, control and monitoring are active right away.

Questions about the GoodWe integration

Which GoodWe inverters have an integration of their own?

The grid-tied MT and SMT series, from the GW30K-MT to the GW80KBF-MT and from the GW40KS-MT to the GW60KS-MT. The other GoodWe series connect through the generic SunSpec integration.

Does the EMS also control reactive power?

Yes. Besides curtailing active power, the EMS can give the MT and SMT inverters a reactive power setpoint.

Does this work together with hardware from another brand?

Yes, the EMS is brand-independent. A battery, PV inverter, EV chargers and meters from different manufacturers are controlled together as one optimised system.

How do I connect a GoodWe MT inverter to the EMS?

The Voltmaster Controller connects to the device over the local network. The step-by-step instructions are in our documentation, and as a certified partner we guide your first commissioning from start to finish.
