Bayernwerk Netz: telecontrol connection for PV and battery storage
Bayernwerk Netz is the distribution grid operator for large parts of Bavaria and belongs to the E.ON group. For plants from 100 to 500 kW we connect over the common E.ON Modbus TCP profile. The Voltmasters EMS executes the setpoints per VDE-AR-N 4110 and we support the signal test at commissioning.
Bayernwerk Netz at a glance
Bayernwerk Netz runs one of the largest area grids in Germany and supplies large parts of Bavaria, from the Upper Palatinate to Lower Bavaria and Swabia. It is headquartered in Regensburg. Because of the strong PV rollout in rural areas, new generation and storage plants continuously arrive at the medium-voltage grid.
Bayernwerk publishes its own grid guideline for the telecontrol connection of customer plants to the medium-voltage grid. It is closely related to the requirements of the other E.ON grid operators, so our connection maps onto the Bayernwerk profile without detours.

Your connection at Bayernwerk Netz
For plants from 100 to 500 kW we connect Bayernwerk Netz over the common E.ON Modbus TCP profile. From around 100 kW, Bayernwerk requires a telecontrol connection and participation in Redispatch 2.0.
E.ON Modbus TCP profile
Connection over the Gateway Light with the E.ON Modbus TCP profile, which is identical across the E.ON grid. The EMS provides the Modbus TCP server, receives the grid-security setpoint in steps and reports voltage, active and reactive power back.
- Modbus TCP, E.ON profile (Gateway Light)
- Setpoint in steps, measurement feedback
- The same profile at all five E.ON grid operators
Grid security before market: setpoints from grid-security management always take priority. The EMS executes them with the required ramp rates and keeps optimising on the market as soon as the restriction is lifted.
Why Voltmasters
A proven telecontrol stack, a guided signal test
We already run the same proven telecontrol and Modbus stack across several grid areas. The telecontrol function is integrated into the Voltmaster Controller, so no separate RTU is needed. We prepare all signals and support commissioning with Bayernwerk Netz.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions about Bayernwerk Netz
Which telecontrol protocol does Bayernwerk Netz use?
From 100 to 500 kW the connection is over the E.ON Modbus TCP profile at the Gateway Light, per the Bayernwerk grid guideline for the telecontrol connection to the medium-voltage grid.
From what power level is the telecontrol connection mandatory in the Bayernwerk grid?
The decisive figure is the total power at the grid connection point. From around 100 kW, Bayernwerk requires a telecontrol connection and participation in Redispatch 2.0. The exact thresholds are set by Bayernwerk in its grid guideline and the TAB Mittelspannung.
Does Voltmasters support the Bayernwerk grid today?
In the 100 to 500 kW range, yes, over the common E.ON Modbus TCP profile, which is identical at all E.ON grid operators. It builds on our stack proven at Westnetz and in Belgium.
Do I need a separate telecontrol cabinet?
The telecontrol function is integrated into the Voltmaster Controller. With Modbus TCP the EMS provides the server on the customer side. The operator-owned gateway comes from the grid operator.
