Avacon Netz: telecontrol connection for PV and battery storage

Avacon Netz supplies large parts of Lower Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt and belongs to the E.ON group. It governs the telecontrol connection in the grid guideline NT-10-24. From 100 to 500 kW we connect over the E.ON Modbus TCP profile, with setpoint execution per VDE-AR-N 4110 and a guided signal test.

Avacon Netz at a glance

Avacon Netz operates the distribution grid across large parts of Lower Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt, with extensions into Brandenburg, Hesse and North Rhine-Westphalia. It is headquartered in Helmstedt. The region is strongly shaped by wind and PV generation, so many plants arrive at the medium-voltage grid.

Avacon publishes the grid guideline NT-10-24 for the telecontrol connection of customer plants connected to the medium-voltage grid. This grid guideline is the common template of the E.ON group, so our connection maps directly onto it.

Your connection at Avacon Netz

For plants from 100 to 500 kW we connect Avacon Netz over the common E.ON Modbus TCP profile. From around 100 kW, Avacon requires a telecontrol connection and participation in Redispatch 2.0.

E.ON Modbus TCP profile

Connection over the Gateway Light with the E.ON Modbus TCP profile, which is identical across the E.ON grid. The EMS provides the Modbus TCP server, receives the grid-security setpoint in steps and reports voltage, active and reactive power back.

  • Modbus TCP, E.ON profile (Gateway Light)
  • Setpoint in steps, measurement feedback
  • The same profile at all five E.ON grid operators

Grid security before market: setpoints from grid-security management always take priority. The EMS executes them with the required ramp rates and keeps optimising on the market as soon as the restriction is lifted.

Grid guideline NT-10-24, cleanly implemented

Because NT-10-24 is the common E.ON template, we map it directly onto our telecontrol stack. The technology is integrated into the Voltmaster Controller, without a separate RTU. We test all signals in advance and support commissioning with Avacon Netz.

Frequently asked questions about Avacon Netz

What does the grid guideline NT-10-24 govern at Avacon?

NT-10-24 is the Avacon grid guideline for the telecontrol connection of customer plants connected to the medium-voltage grid. It is the common template of the E.ON group and defines the data scope, the setpoint and the feedback.

Which protocol applies at Avacon from 100 to 500 kW?

From 100 to 500 kW the connection is over the E.ON Modbus TCP profile at the Gateway Light, per NT-10-24. The decisive figure is the total power at the grid connection point.

Does Voltmasters support the Avacon grid today?

In the 100 to 500 kW range, yes, over the common E.ON Modbus TCP profile. It builds on our stack proven at Westnetz and in Belgium.

From what power level is the telecontrol connection mandatory?

From around 100 kW of total power at the grid connection point, Avacon requires a telecontrol connection and participation in Redispatch 2.0. The exact thresholds are set by Avacon in the grid guideline and the TAB Mittelspannung.
