Wind as a second production source under smart control

Next to PV, Voltmasters EMS also takes wind on board as a production source. The turbine does not have to be a specific brand: the EMS measures production through an auxiliary energy meter and forecasts the yield from the weather outlook. That way you see not only what the turbine produces now, but also what it will produce in the coming hours.

Windturbine

Supported devices

  • Windturbine (generiek)

Any wind turbine whose production can be read through an energy meter. Send us the turbine data (rotor diameter, hub height, cut-in and cut-out speed and optionally the power curve) for the most accurate forecast.

What the EMS gets out of your Windturbine installation

  • Measure wind production through an auxiliary energy meter, brand-independent
  • Wind forecast based on the weather outlook at hub height
  • A forecast that self-corrects against the real, measured production
  • Wind counts toward self-consumption, peak shaving and battery control
  • Green certificates for wind included in the yield figures

Why add wind to the EMS

To the EMS a wind turbine is a non-controllable production source: the EMS does not curtail the turbine, it measures and forecasts the yield and factors that into the site's energy balance. The measured wind output counts toward self-consumption, peak shaving and battery control, just like PV. The Voltmaster Controller runs that logic locally, so control keeps working even without internet.

How your Windturbine connects to the EMS

Voltmaster Controller in the cabinet

The industrial DIN-rail controller sits next to the installation and runs the optimisation locally, even without internet.

Questions about the Windturbine integration

Which wind turbines does Voltmasters support?

Wind is built brand-independent. Any turbine whose production can be measured through an energy meter connects to the EMS. You describe the turbine (rotor diameter, hub height, cut-in and cut-out speed) and assign the meter that measures the output.

How does the EMS forecast wind production?

The EMS fetches the weather outlook for the location, adjusts the wind speed to the hub height and estimates production with the power curve or a physics model. The forecast also self-corrects against the real, measured production, so it keeps getting more accurate over time.

Can I include green certificates for wind?

Yes. You enter the value of the green certificates per MWh on the turbine, after which it is included in the yield figures.

Does the system keep working when the internet drops?

Yes. The Voltmaster Controller runs the optimisation locally in the cabinet. If the connection drops, control, peak shaving and the safety limits simply stay active.

How do I connect a wind turbine to the EMS?

The Voltmaster Controller connects to the device over the local network. The step-by-step instructions are in our documentation, and as a certified partner we guide your first commissioning from start to finish.
