Generators integration
DEIF generators in a smart microgrid
The DEIF AGC 150 and AGC 200 are generator controllers for diesel gensets. Voltmasters EMS talks to the controller over Modbus TCP: during a grid outage it starts the generator when the battery runs low, gives it a power setpoint and stops it again once the battery is charged.
DEIF
Supported devices
- AGC 150
- AGC 200 (genset)
The DEIF AGC 150 and the genset variants of the AGC 200 series, over Modbus TCP. A generator can be set as a backup and can take an energy meter on its cable as measurement source. Available on controllers with Microgrid: from 0.0.339-10, the AGC 200 from 0.0.339-11.
What the EMS gets out of your DEIF installation
- Start and stop on the battery state of charge in a microgrid
- A power setpoint between the minimum load and the rated power
- Fuel level, running hours and fuel cost per generator
- Alarms of the generator controller as incidents
- A backup generator that only starts when no other generator can run
Why a generator belongs in the EMS
A generator that starts at every grid outage builds up running hours and burns a lot of fuel. In a Voltmasters Microgrid the battery carries the site first, and the generator only comes in when it has to. The EMS follows the power, the running state and the fuel level, raises the DEIF alarms as incidents and works out the fuel cost per generator in the microgrid report.
The technical bit, in short
- Connection over Modbus TCP on port 502
- Generator controller in the AUTO running mode
- Controller and DEIF on the same local network
How it works
How your DEIF connects to the EMS
Voltmaster Controller in the cabinet
The industrial DIN-rail controller sits next to the installation and runs the optimisation locally, even without internet.
Connect over the local network
You connect the device following the step-by-step guide in our documentation. We assist with commissioning on your first project.
Configure and go live
The installation appears in the platform: dashboards, control and monitoring are active right away.

Questions about the DEIF integration
Which DEIF controllers does Voltmasters support?
The DEIF AGC 150 and the genset variants of the AGC 200 series, such as the AGC 243. The mains and bus tie variants are not supported.
When does the EMS start the generator?
In a microgrid the EMS starts the generator when the battery state of charge drops below the start threshold, and stops it above the stop threshold. With a manual override you can also start or stop the generator yourself, or give it a power.
Does the system keep working when the internet drops?
Yes. The Voltmaster Controller runs the optimisation locally in the cabinet. If the connection drops, control, peak shaving and the safety limits simply stay active.
How do I connect a DEIF generator controller to the EMS?
The Voltmaster Controller connects to the device over the local network. The step-by-step instructions are in our documentation, and as a certified partner we guide your first commissioning from start to finish.
