# GoodWe

> Supported series: GoodWe MT and SMT grid-tied PV inverters (beta), with active and reactive power control, also through RTU over TCP.

Our EMS monitors the GoodWe **MT** and **SMT** three-phase grid-tied PV inverters and controls their active and reactive power. These series have no SunSpec registers, so they run on an integration of their own that reads the GoodWe register block.

> **Note**
>
> The MT and SMT models are available from EMS controller version **0.0.340**. They are in beta: let Voltmasters know when you commission one.
>
> For the GoodWe **SEC3000C** battery system, see [GoodWe in Battery Systems](https://voltmasters.io/en/docs/device-integrations/battery-systems/goodwe/).

## Supported devices

| Series | Models | Power |
| --- | --- | --- |
| MT (beta) | GW30K-MT, GW50K-MT, GW60K-MT, GW35KLV-MT, GW70KHV-MT, GW80KHV-MT, GW80KBF-MT | 30 to 80 kW |
| SMT (beta) | GW40KS-MT, GW50KS-MT, GW60KS-MT | 40 to 60 kW |

The other GoodWe PV inverters, such as the DT, MS, NS, HT and GT series, are offered as beta models through the [generic SunSpec adapter](https://voltmasters.io/en/docs/device-integrations/pv-inverters/sunspec/).

## How the integration works

- **Monitoring**: the production, the power and the measurements of the inverter, shown on the device page.
- **Active power control**: the EMS curtails the inverter when the site asks for it, for example at negative prices, under an export limit or for zero export.
- **Reactive power control**: the EMS can give the inverter a reactive power setpoint.
- **Incidents**: the faults of the inverter, such as an arc fault, a ground fault, a relay or fan failure or a surge protection failure, are raised as incidents.

## Setup

An MT or SMT inverter usually communicates over RS485. Make it reachable over the network in one of two ways:

- **Through an RS485 to Modbus TCP converter**, such as the [EP E300](https://voltmasters.io/en/docs/getting-started/adding-and-verifying-devices/rs485-to-modbus-tcp-adapters/#ep-e300). The converter translates to Modbus TCP, and you add the inverter as a normal Modbus TCP device.
- **Through a transparent serial converter** that passes the RS485 frames unchanged over TCP. Then tick **RTU over TCP (serial converter)** in the communication step, next to **Exclusive connection**. The EMS then sends bare Modbus RTU frames over the TCP connection instead of Modbus TCP. When the network scan finds a device with this framing, the option is ticked for you.

1. **Add the inverter in the platform**

Add a device of type **PV inverter**, with brand **GoodWe** and the model of the inverter, for example **GW50KS-MT**. Fill in the IP address and port of the converter, and the Modbus address of the inverter as **Slave ID**.
2. **Verify**

Check on the device page that the production comes in, and that the inverter follows a lowered power limit.

> **Note**
>
> An MT or SMT device on a controller older than 0.0.340 runs through the generic SunSpec adapter. Once the controller runs 0.0.340 or later, the EMS switches it to the GoodWe integration by itself.
